Clarissa Dalloway is a part of the upper class in England, but she always seems to wonder how her life would be changed if she was not part of this class.  Clarissa ultimately sacrificed passion in her life for the security of a nice upper-class life.  She knows that if she had married Peter Walsh she would have had passion in her marriage but she would not have had the comforts of her upper class life.  She often feels trapped by her social class but she is too afraid of what her life would be like if she did not have it. She and Septimus are very similar in their feelings on social class of England, they both feel oppressed by it and after Septimus commits suicide Clarissa feels partly to blame for his death.  In the end Clarissa feels oppressed by her social class, but also in the end she realizes she has a good life and is too afraid to sacrifice that life.
